My girlfriend and I planned a last minute escape from Istanbul vacation to Diyarbakir, Urfa, Antep and finally Hatay, and by far the nicest and most romantic place we stayed was Asude Konak. The restoration of the hotel is so detailed that we didn't realize it had been restored until looking at the pictures later. The room's period decor really made us feel like we were living in the late Ottoman Empire.
We had dinner out at the famous but touristic lahmacun place (İmam Çağdaş). Fortunately however, we made it back to Asude Konak in time for a special local dessert cooked by our hostess Jale Hanım, that was so delicious it made us regret not just having dinner in. Then my girlfriend and I stayed up with our hosts Çağatay Bey and Jale Hanım drinking raki and çay, and talking about the history and archaeology of Antep with the view of the neighboring Seljuk mosque in the background.
